Privacy Policy
Song Pong is an iOS app made by Apricity Sound (Chad Furrow, Ontario, Canada). This policy explains what data the app handles and what it does with it. Plain language: Song Pong is local-first. Most data never leaves your iPhone.
Data we collect on the device
- Audio recordings you make. Captured by the iPhone microphone (or a connected USB audio interface) and saved to the app's local sandbox. Never uploaded automatically.
- Project metadata — track names, levels, effect settings, drum patterns, BPM, the active tape, etc. Stored locally alongside your recordings.
- App preferences — Simple/Advanced UI choice, Studio Vocal Mode on/off, Console Color on/off, accessibility mode, etc. Stored in the system's standard UserDefaults.
None of the above is shared with us or any third party unless you explicitly use a sharing feature listed below.
Data that leaves your device only when you ask
- Collaborate / Invite Friends. When you tap Share → Collaborate or Invite Friends, the app uploads a bundle of the current tape (audio takes + project metadata) to our server so a shareable
songpong://link can be generated. Anyone with that link can open the bundle in their own Song Pong. The bundle stays on our server until you delete it. - Mixdown export. When you tap Share → Mixdown, the app renders a stereo or per-track file locally. Where it goes next (Messages, Files, Mail, etc.) is your choice via the iOS share sheet. No copy is sent to us.
- Session Log. Settings → Feedback & Diagnostics → Share Session Log produces a plain-text diagnostic log (no audio). You choose where to send it. The Email to Developer button addresses it to chad@apricitysound.com.
What we do NOT collect
- No analytics or telemetry. No third-party SDKs. No advertising identifiers.
- No location data.
- No contacts, photos, or other personal data outside what you record.
- No account creation is required to use the app.
Microphone access
Song Pong needs microphone permission to record. iOS asks the first time you tap record. You can revoke this in Settings → Song Pong → Microphone at any time; recording will stop working until you grant it again.
Your rights
- Local data: delete the app to remove all local recordings and metadata. Or use Settings → Data → Delete All Recordings (when available).
- Uploaded tape bundles: email chad@apricitysound.com with the
songpong://link or the project ID and we will delete the bundle from our server. Requests are honored within 7 days. - Diagnostic logs you've emailed us: ask us to delete a specific message and we will.
Children
Song Pong is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes
If we update this policy, the "Last updated" date above will change. Material changes will be announced in the app's release notes.
